Savored wouldn’t be what it is without our dedicated staff. We have some of the most enterprising and talented, and of course, voracious individuals. If there is something we know and love above all else, it’s our restaurants. This week’s email featured some of our top-picks, and I handpicked my personal favorites.
Great date spots are hard to find. We all share a slew of worries from the way the lighting makes your hair look to whether you will appear attractive as you consume copious amounts of food (well, maybe this one is only mine). Zentan is the perfect place to curb these insecure musings. The place has serious swagger, with its candlelit bar and its sexy plates of delicate sushi. You are taken care of when you come here, and it is the perfect place to bring someone special.
Woodward is one of the few taverns you can find that also delivers ingredient-driven dishes. I recommend their steak, which boasts a winning chipotle hollandaise, but in fact, their whole menu delivers. Savory smells like truffle oil and smoked meats waft from the back of the kitchen, and you can slide up to the mahogany bar to order yourself a hand-crafted cocktail, like the Bold Fashion, a version of an Old Fashion which features Bully Boy white whiskey.
In Spanish, Ofrenda means gift, and the West Village restaurant Ofrenda definitely delivers. Be sure to nab a reservation because the place fills up fast with hungry patrons for good reason. Start with their Queso Al Horno, a goat cheese corn truffle that holds a hint of pepper jack. Their grilled butterflied hanger steak comes with traditional Mexican notes like chayote and tomatillo salsa, but they also include some innovative fare, like the pan-roasted salmon, with a Mexican twist of pico de gallo. Don’t leave without getting a Smokey Jalapeno Margarita, made with pepper infused tequila.
